FAQ

How do I register my school/teams to participate?

A school registers to participate in the program by purchasing the questions. A school registers its teams for tournaments by following the procedures set by their own region’s tournament organizers. See the regional tournament page for contact information for those who are organizing regional tournaments.

How do I get the practice questions?

In January, all schools that have signed up and paid for the questions will be sent those questions to use for their in-school battles. Questions will not be distributed early.

Where can I buy the books for the upcoming season?

Depending on your location, check with a local bookstore to see if they can offer a discount. Currently Barnes & Noble and The Rediscovered Bookshop offer discounts on IBOB titles.

You can also check with your local book fair vendor to see what kind of discounts or specials they may offer.

How many books do I need to buy for my school or library?

Depending on how many students you have participating, anywhere from 2-5 copies of each title should work.

What if one student on a team can’t attend the tournament? Does the entire team have to stay home?

If there are team members who can’t come to the tournament, the team can use an alternate to fill the space. This takes a bit of planning ahead; it is probably best to have the alternate on the team from the very beginning.

Another option is to play with less than a full team. A maximum of four students can play on a team, but a team can consist of fewer students.

Can my school participate in the program, but not in the tournament?

Yes! If for whatever reason your school is unable or unwilling to send teams to the regional tournament, you can still hold an intraschool tournament. Just let us know of your plans, and we will send you the tournament questions after all of the  regional tournaments have concluded.

When and where will the state tournament take place?

Idaho does not yet hold a state tournament. We hope our state will have enough programs running in all of the regions to hold a statewide tournament within the next few years. If you are interested in helping to make that happen, please contact us.
